Dutch Children - April 28, 1954

Roberta and Catherine in their farm clothes might not have made the front of a postcard but for preschoolers the farm was a better choice!  I do like the expressions on the children's faces in this card.

Don't you think these children are cute?  We got here about 1:30 and are staying at the Hotel Central.  Went out to an old feudal castle this afternoon, built around 1300.  The moat is still around it and some of the torture equipment still there.  [Wonder how Elizabeth explained that to us.]  This is the first country that we have seen that the fields are worked like they are in the U.S.  The people here speak English French.  We are going to see some of the public buildings tomorrow then on to Paris where we will see Uncle Calvin.  [Love] Mommie & Daddy

Wonder if that saying originated in the Netherlands? Recall our buying some wooden shoes which weren't too practical in actual use. Again "live and learn".
