Paris - Notre-Dame April 30 - May 1, 1954

A- Notre-Dame Cathedral.  B- Arc de Triomphe
Day 46 - Paris to see Calvin – the motivation behind the whole trip.  Certainly it was the primary impetus in going then as Calvin returned to the States in October 1954.  Combined with HH's desire to see the world, here they are in France, the ninth country on their European tour.
Notre-Dame, Paris card sent to Catherine & Roberta - April 30, 1954
[Friday] 4/30/54
We had a grocery store lunch with Calvin today.  We climbed clear to the top of this church today, which is about 700 years old [groundbreaking 1163, Completed 1345].  Calvin is really showing us the town and for the first time since leaving N.Y. we really know what the man says.  Calvin got us a nice room near his place in a hotel where he first stayed.  Received your letter here Elizabeth, also from Mother, the last being written a week ago.  It seems we have walked miles have also been on buses and subway. Going to London next Wed. probably.  – M&D
Notre-Dame, Paris Postcard sent to Mrs. NW Ballantyne - May 1, 1954
[Saturday] 1 May 1954
Calvin has really had us on the go since the moment we arrived – two days ago.  Today we went down to [Palace of] Versailles – didn't realize it covered 300 acres nor so beautiful.
Saw Notre-Dame all lighted up tonight and the Arc de Triomphe.  They only illuminate the "sights" Saturday evenings from 9-11 PM so it was quite a rare view.  Anxious to see all yet get back home too.  All our very best love. – H&J
