Diary Postage Rates, CPI and Misc.

First Class Postage Rates, Post card rates.  [Note: HH entered 1954-2007 first class rates in diary on October Cash Account Page, I added the additional dates and the post card postage.  I had been meaning to find the post card rates as some of the vintage cards which are undated can be given an approximate date depending on the postage attached.  Additional info found at this website, The History of Postage Rates in the United States].

1863 - 3¢ (March per half ounce)
1863 - 2¢ (October per half ounce)
1885 - 2¢ (per ounce as are all later dates
1898 - Postcard rate added 1¢

1917 - 3¢ (Higher rate during the war)
1919 - 2¢
1932 - 3¢
1952 - Postcard rates up to 2¢ (from here on first class and post card rates will be separated by comma)

1958 - 4¢, 3¢
1963 - 5¢, 4¢ (Zip Code begins)
1968 - 6¢, 5¢
1971 - 8¢, 6¢

1974 - 10¢, 8¢
1975 - 10¢, 7¢ (September: post card rates dropped!)
1975 - 13¢, 9¢ (December: end of bargain post card rate)
1978 - 15¢, 10¢

1981 - 18¢, 12¢ (March)
1981 - 20¢, 13¢ (November)
1983 - Zip+4 is implemented
1985 - 22¢, 14¢

1988 - 25¢, 15¢
1991 - 29¢, 19¢
1995 - 32¢, 20¢
2001 - 34¢, 21¢
