1986 Family Letter from HH & Jean -Feb.18
February 18, 1986
Dear Family:
We are getting back to normal after a "flying trip" to New York. Had a real bargain on the People's flight from Cincinnati at $29 per person each way. Enjoyed having the Walkers go with us . . it was their first trip to the Big Apple. They took a Gray Line Tour on Friday of the sights. Had a package deal at the Omni Park Hotel which included a buffet breakfast each morning, which was really excellent . . . loads of fresh fruit plus all the customary items.
Oh yes, the weather in NYC was great, guess we missed the BIG snow of the season here while we were gone. Right now it is up in the high 50ties, so plenty of variety.
Your mother went book shopping in NYC and is going to Columbus with the Sabina librarian to buy some more books for the library. This Friday we are going to Cincinnati for the day for Dad has signed up for a continuing legal education course.
Unleaded gas in Wilmington is now 93.9, plus several bargains at the grocery as Kroger is trying to keep the new store from making too many inroads. They have had chicken at 39¢ a pound and milk at $1.29 a gallon. We got some nice bananas and oranges at 10¢ a pound at the new store.
Plan to leave for Florida a week from this weekend, visiting some friends en route and arriving in LW on Tuesday, March 4th. We do hope that is OK with the Hortons.
[Love, etc.]
