1976 Roberta's Ceylon Postcards

The Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, an island country in South Asia near south-east India, was known from the beginning of British colonial rule until 1972 as Ceylon.  It is roughly the size (~25,000 square miles) of West Virginia and is 18 miles from India at its closest point.

Am now in Ceylon a small country near India.  The tea here is really good – also alot of delicious fruit – pineapple, papayas, 5 different kinds of bananas –

I've been swimming – it is only about 85ยบ here – this picture common sight here & in India ––

Hi – Right now am sitting by the pool at the Holiday Inn – enjoying the life of luxury – but in a few hours we will go back to the Y.M.C.A.

Ceylon is a tropical country – constantly HOT – the big drink here is coconut water – you drink it right from the shell.   Save on dishes that way – Hope you are enjoying your last semester –
Love, Berta
