1991 MV's letter -Aug.26 or 27

[8/26 or 8/27/91]

Dear Mom & Dad --

Just wanted to get a quick note off to you in case you are heading out Thursday for USSR.

Got this letter in the mail about 2 weeks ago -- Ginny was with the YWAM [?] group that I went to Europe with.  She's a very interesting person; thought you'd be interested in what she's been doing.  I don't know that I would take the letter to Russia so as not to jeopardize any work she might be doing -- if that is now possible -- with the fall of communism, there are no more absolutes!

I think I told you that we have two kittens now; one is solid black and the other black with white underpinnings.  Don named them Tom & Jerry, after the cartoon characters.  The solid black one is very skittish and the other one goes out of his way to be affectionate.  They are quite different personalities, but we have really enjoyed them -- outdoors, of course.

One of the church members came today and bush-hogged about ¼-½ acre around the house.  It makes our yard look much bigger but the part he cut is far from mowable.

Don starts classes 9/3 and will be taking 10 hours.  He will be doing his Supervised Ministry in Somerset at PERM (Pulaski Emergency Relief Ministry).  He started that today.  They try to help indigent and also poverty people with $ and other resources, often working with God's Food Pantry.  It was started by several local churches as an outreach so that no one church would have the bulk of that type of work.  They are open 10-4 Mon-Friday.

Well, I'm on my way to Lexington for the monthly meeting of the Emmaus Board.  Tonight we elect new positions for the upcoming year.  Have a good trip & be careful.  If you don't go, know that you are always welcome here.

Love,
MV & Don

P.S.  We are tentatively planning to be in New Vienna for Christmas Day.  I have services on Christmas Eve & possibly the day following.
