1981 Family Letter -Aug.2

Sunday morning --
August 2, 1981

Dearest Family --

Our neighbors across the street have been going strong most of the night so I decided I might as well get up and try to get something constructive done beside or rather instead of complaining in my mind about them.

It was good talking to Wendy, Catherine, Serena and Virginia in the last two days and good to get those letters -- we always enjoy them and also a card just to us from the Hortons.  G'ma shares her letters with us so we keep up that way too.

We too got an invitation to Barb Biery's wedding and wish that we were able to go -- hope to see John and Carol before that so that they might take over a wedding gift that we will have for her.  It was nice of her to send us as well as MV and Roberta invitations.  Carol is to be in the wedding so would have another nice reason to want to go.

Thanks too for the pictures, Roberta -- my good intentions of starting an album are still just that but glad that you all don't take after your mother.  We couldn't think where the picture was taken around the picnic table and then remembered having one after church in Payson area.  Can't say that the one of Dad and I are too flattering but it did bring back some nice memories.

[Addresses given for Serena's info, along with an address in New Orleans where they will be Aug. 7-12]

Dad and I are going to Cincinnati today to the State meeting of the commissioners which goes through Wed. night (& possibly a little of Thursday).  Dad plans to go home and get a little office work done and get the girls and then we will leave for LA the next morning from Cincinnati.  (Louisiana not Los Angeles).

Carolyn Rhonemus's mother, Goldie Edgington passed away last Tuesday -- she has been sick with cancer for so long -- Dad and Phyllis went to Lynchburg to the funeral home.  Esther had been away on vacation and read it just in time to get to the funeral, which was a nice thing for her to do having just gotten home.  The Salisburys went out west with their camper and got as far as WYoming -- seemed to have a real nice trip.

We went square dancing Wednesday and Thursday nights.  The one was a raid (banner) at Beavercreek where our caller was having all singing calls (much easier) so we took the Harners.  Thursday we had to furnish something to drink so otherwise we might not have gone quite so often but will miss for a couple of weeks.  We have the list of New Orleans clubs but doubt if we get to any of them.

John and Carol -- glad to hear about your trip to New York and Florida -- wondered why you mentioned Jacksonville til I found the PEOPLE Express schedule -- it is really reasonable -- hope that you plan to take time to see John Uible in the bank there or at least call him up.  If you would write ahead of time maybe something could be arranged.  For you others: you can fly to NY for $35 weekends and evenings and to Jacksonville for $49.  That is hard to beat.  Weekdays for $55 and $79 respectively.

Found the clipping about the restaurant in Chicago -- Jock's which Dad had already in Serena's letter -- they not only give the usual calorie count but tell eaters how long they will have to work out to work off the meal (in code form).  They do this for everything but desserts which they say wouldn't be ordered if so.  Out of space so will sign-off.

[Love, etc.]
