1973 Louise Robinson letter - Jan. 1

Louise Robinson, a friend of Jean’s at Morgantown’s WVU, was a life long friend who worked for National Geographic and traveled the world. She mostly sent postcards but needed to write a letter to accompany the clippings which she included describing the sad events in the life of a mutual friend, Hester Newlon Thrasher. The young man who died, John Allen Thrasher, was born in 1949. Louise evidently was returning to Washington DC after a flight from Pittsburgh. Transcription and clippings follow.

Mon. nite (late)
[Jan 1, 1973]
Dear Jean,

Have just arrived back – via Allegheny Airlines – crowds at the airport. It takes longer to come in from Nat’l than the entire flight of 40 minutes.

I am enclosing a clip about Hester’s older boy – Tragic – she & Henry don’t want to know any more, etc. – the boy – driving (Dr. Weaver’s son) a prominent physician in town – and I believe – John’s roomate at Morgantown now – John was a 2nd yr. law student. Never in trouble nor interested in drink – Dr’s son was getting over hepatitis (& his first day out) Dr.’s son was only scratched.

To clue you in – their younger boy is a freshman at WVU – recently pledged Delta Tau Delta.

Hope all went well with you & your family over the holidays.

Sincerely, Louise
