Serena's new job, Don's Ordination
HH's Diary 1989-1999 [lightly edited]
Wednesday 1989 - Cris is looking for a job, had thought he had a good job at Clark Equipment. The Harners and I have program at the Lions club on the Cross-Country Bike Ride.
Thursday 1990 - [Turkey]
Friday 1991 - [Wendy visiting] Serena called, she plans to take the reference job at the Hamilton OH Library and will be head of the Reference Dept. with a staff of four.
Tuesday 1994 - [to Kentucky] We left at 1PM for a 2½ hour drive to Morehead KY for Don's ordination as an Elder. We had room at Super 8 Motel. Hard rain en route. Hard to keep Ginny still during the service.
Wednesday 1995 - Picked first peas out of our garden. Lions Club Program – Ron Salisbury spoke on where to put the town radiation material, then Dick Gieringer spoke on the School Board's desire to negotiate with the Lions Club on their property for a potential site for a new school. Had 14 Lions there. Orville Harner has problem in other eye.
Friday 1996 - [ElderHostel program to Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary, returning 6/22]
Saturday 1997 - Trimmed our shrubbery and also parsonage lot row – that was a job and no help from the Kings. Did see their son help carry in the groceries. [Heard from] Mie Young, her husband stays home and takes care of Hanes (?) who is 7-months old. His father has cancer. Form letter, "Let's get acquainted," from our new minister, Michael and Mary Barthel, Chaplin KY (near Bardstown). We woke MV up at 8:30 as she and Ginny had been out all night on a cancer run.
Sunday 1998 - [Washington DC] Went to New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, pew where Lincoln sat is still there, also the same stained glass window above the pew. The Morgans and Adam came over at 3pm and we left for the Tom Dailey's in McLean VA. Beautiful home, [family includes] Laura (11) and Tom's wife Leslie [and a] big friendly dog, Winston. Tom has an exercise room larger than [in] most hotels and a 4000 bottle wine cellar kept at a constant temperature and humidity. Bill [aka "Freeman" Dailey] and Mary Pat came over, he is 61, Tom is Roberta's age. Jim [Tom and Bill's father] died in 1965, Virginia in 1983. Our room [at the DC Marriott] has a walk in shower, really worked very well. [Learned later that] Leslie [Clinton] Reynolds [youngest son of Serena Uible Reynolds 1882-1963, sister of CJ] passed away, born in Taft CA on 4/30/1922, retired in 1978. She [his wife] wrote to us on 6/16/98.
