Fairview Friends BBQ

HH's Diary 1989-1999 [lightly edited]

Friday 1989 - [HH to Elderhostel in Athens OH. Jean & Wendy to Elderhostel in Townsend TN]

Saturday 1990 - Pulled thistles in the garden, so many.  Went to Fairview for their annual Chicken BBQ.  More rain.

Sunday 1991 - Had lunch at Wooden Spoon.  Serena seems to hit it off with Cris and Angela and their 2 children, even talking of baby sitting with them when their parents go to Chicago.  Morgans played golf at Wilmington Elks Club.

Wednesday 1993 - [Ginny visiting] Jean, Ginny and I went to Wilmington, legal business at Court House, then 2 house calls – Harold Fisher and Mrs. Winters at Prairie View, saw a number of people there to visit.  Then supper at Wendy's, the Donald Bernards joined us.  Subscribed to Hillsboro paper, $35/year.  In 1818 it was $20/year, 1 issue a week, now 2 issues a week.  Heard bad news on WISC Toy.

Friday 1995 - [Elderhostel Marine Expeditions program through 6/27]

Sunday 1996 - Article in NYT on Warsaw, Poland.

Monday 1997 - Larry Lyons funeral at Catholic Church followed by lunch.  Went to Blanchester.  Worked on the parsonage yard, got rid of their Christmas tree.

Tuesday 1998 - [leave for Sweden, Lapland and Finland trip w/ Hinshaws]

Wednesday 1999 - Had 2 Insolvency hearings today, Charles Day and Lyle Sheffield.  Jean was a volunteer at CMH, so had lunch there, $2.30.  Charlie Ely joined us.  He is getting ready for an operation on his arm next week.  Finally got the lawnmower (hand) back from Faris Implement.  Serena went to Cincinnati for overnight.  Got gas at Streber's then found ourselves locked out of the car so called GG.

1999 Lawnmower name would be Farris's out on the edge of town where Dad usually bought the big red snapper mowers and probably hand mowers after Daye Hardward went out of business?

Thanks, Mary! Actually that would be Faris Implement (http://www.farispolaris.com) which in my day was still located downtown. The building where they were located then was torn down in 1967 to make way for the bank parking lot. See New Vienna Bank pictures for a picture of their downtown location.
