June 13, 1989-99

New Vienna Municipal Building*

HH's Diary 1989-1999 [lightly edited]

Tuesday 1989 - [Joe, Mares, Robert and Wes leave] We went to Wilmington at 3pm, Court House rounds then met at the library.  Ate at Frisch's then to Emmaus meeting at Wilmington UMC.  Got cereal and milk at Kroger's.  Cris and Angela, Mares, etc. left for home today.  Cherries are turning red.  Kroger's "First Peaches from California" 49¢/lb.  50 years ago was the dedication of the New Vienna Village building*.  Cost $32,000 [and C.J. Uible was the general contractor].  Cris got a new job at Rockwell.

Wednesday 1990 - [Turkey]

Thursday 1991 - Rt. 73 to Hillsboro reopened, new alignment near [Harry] Sauner Rd.

Saturday 1992 - Buzzard Glory Days.  Our church having Chicken BBQ, $5 and $3, we are on advertising.  Joan Roby (wife of Wade?) made some beautiful signs.  A country singer from Nashville - a big crowd downtown.  Mother very alert.  GG and Carolyn came in and also visited with Florence Christy.

Sunday 1993 - Ed Johnson spoke at the Gazebo.  Saw Weegie Hughes there, John [Hughes] is not too well.  Square dance jamboree at the Fairgrounds, $1/person, 1-8pm in 3 buildings.  We tried to eat at Spillway but closed, ending up at Chinese Restaurant near K-Mart.  Enjoyed the last square dance caller from California.  The national convention is in St. Louis.

Monday 1994 - Herman Cartwright passed away at 61, what a penalty for not being able to resist the bottle.

Tuesday 1995 - [to NYC] Left Columbus for JFK airport in NYC for the Elderhostel Marine Expeditions  program, receipt attached, $3079 each or $6158 total June 13-27 thru Viking Heritage.  See separate notes.  52 of us in group.

Thursday 1996 - [ElderHostel program to Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary, returning 6/22]

Friday 1997 - Trimmed shrubbery here and at GHU's.

Saturday 1998 - Cut back grass on sidewalk to our front door.  Church is having Chicken BBQ at Fire House.

Sunday 1999 - Had lesson on Ezekiel 2nd chapter.  Several of our church members to be baptized at Rocky Fork but got separated from them in Hillsboro.  Did drive by GG and Bob's new home purchase, next to Cooper Snyder's place.  Stopped at K-Mart and got cantaloupe at 97¢ each.
