1980 Roberta's Postcard -Oct.13

Caption: PETERSEN ROCK GARDENS in Central Oregon between Redmond and Bend on old U.S. 97.  Started as a hobby by Mr. Petersen from his gathering of Oregon native volcanic rocks and gems of many colors, he personally made them into many exhibits of castles, statues and pools.  The setting is on his farm.  The Gardens have become so famous that a constant stream of tourists visit them daily.

Hi!  In Portland for the night -- did come the scenic route and we've put 1200 miles on car!  Really saw the sights w/ Catherine as Tour Guide -- Kah-Nee-Ta -- ate at Tumalo Emporium -- sure good.

Staying just N. of Shilo Inn on 82nd -- large Best Western room $22 -- Kitchenette -- Went to see the Grotto this afternoon -- was very cool on upper level.  Some rain this AM -- back to MESA to defrost --

Love,
Roberta
