Dad's Diary 1989-1999 [lightly edited]
Tuesday 1989 - Picked 4 quarts of strawberries at noon, plenty there. We rode out to Harners for supper. Josephine had 11 pages written out on the bike trip. Cris and Angela, with Laura (2½) and Wil (3 months) arrived at 9pm with plenty of child equipment. Turmoil in China.
Wednesday 1990 - [Turkey]
Thursday 1991 - [Wendy visiting]
Saturday 1992 - [Jenny Wiley Park, Prestonsburg KY to home] We took 1.3 mile hike from the lodge area, took side road back (5 miles) to Jenny Wiley's grave – quite an Indian story. Picnic lunch at Vesuvius Lake, 10 miles north of Ironton OH, then to see Homer and Roma Thompson (he is 71 and is really showing his age.) They still haven't got their stuff back from the D... here in New Vienna. Supper at Frisch's in Greenfield.
Sunday 1993 - Had SS lesson, Judges 1-3. Mother in great shape. Had Baked Fish and chicken at Long John Silver's for $2.99 less 10%. Jason Burton graduates form ECHS. [Would that be Elaine's son?]
Monday 1994 - Many articles about D-Day – 50 years ago. NY Times was 3¢ an issue then.
Tuesday 1995 - We went to Wilmington, had supper at Taco Bell, $3.05 for the two of us. Lowe's really tearing things up at the old McKay place. Saw Dorothy Pope in the hospital, she is having heart problems.
Thursday 1996 - [ElderHostel program to Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary, returning 6/22]
Friday 1997 - [Columbus for OSBA] Had breakfast in the room, food from home. Jean met Roma Thompson for lunch, went to Bexley Monk. Roma's idea of eating out is McDonald's. Her sister is also in the same facility as Homer. At lunch time I walked to the Capitol and visited Lan Lin [?] office tower. Got bread at North Market, after 5pm first loaf $2, next loaf $1. Ate outdoors at Trattoria, just about across the street [from Crowne Plaza].
Saturday 1998 - [to Washington DC] Left New Vienna at 8:15, had picnic lunch at West Virginia welcome station. Drove to Washington DC (490 miles), met Sid and Roberta at Marriott, 22nd & M Sts. Had supper at Bread and Chocolate then walked around a few blocks.
Sunday 1999 - [Mary, Ginny and Christian visiting; Cleveland to home] Had there breakfast on the door knob [Baymont Inn], left at 8:45, got to NV at 1PM. MV left about 2, again well packed. AC feels good. Got gas at I-71 and 61 for 102.9¢.
