1980 Catherine's Letter -Nov.26

Dear Mother, Dad, and Mary,

Hi!  I don't have too much time this morning but thought I'd try to get a letter off today so it would be in the mail before the holiday.

Yesterday I had what should be my last day of jury duty as my six month term ends with this month.  It was a civil suit involving an automobile accident in which 2 girls were in one car and one guy in the other car.  One of the girls was killed and her mother sued the other girl and the guy to the tune of $280,000.  Then the guy turned around and sued the girls for $70,000.  Both of the defendants each had two lawyers present and the plaintiff had two lawyers so everyone was well represented.  I didn't get chosen but it was 12:30 before they finally got the jury selected and the rest of us were excused.  The case was scheduled to go yesterday, today, and next Monday.

Monday night we went to a meeting at the Day Care Center concerning raising their rates 50¢ per day so Wendy's rate will go up to $7.50/day.  They are also going to extend their hours to midnight and be open on Saturdays also until midnight.  They have been working with the hospital personnel on this as that is one of the prime places where the employees work late hours and still need child care.  Also we could leave Wendy any evening instead of getting a babysitter.  They figure they need a minimum of 12 children in the evening to break even.  Any time that we leave Wendy when I am not working the rate is $1.15/hour.  Babysitters are getting a minimum of $1/hour so it wouldn't be that much more expensive

I think we are all set for Thanksgiving now.  We decided to have banana cream pie instead of pumpkin.  Does that sound too untraditional?  I got a 9# turkey, stuffing mix, sweet potatoes, squash, cranberry sauce, etc.

Out of paper and time so I better close --

Love, Catherine, Gerry & Wendy

The clothes you sent Wendy arrived Monday.  They are real cute!  Thanks alot.  She wore the jeans rolled up Mon. night.  All a little large but she'll get maximum use of them that way.  Thanks again!
