1969 Jean's postcards to Roberta -July

First Presbyterian Church, Port Gibson, Mississippi . . . One of the most famed landmarks of the South because of the hand with the forefinger pointing to the heavens.  The chandeliers on the inside of this historic church are taken from the famous river boat, Robert E. Lee.

Saw this today along with capital at Jackson and Vicksburg Battlefield.  On to the capital of Louisiana -- Baton Rouge.  The weather is still HOT -- very unusual they say.  Had a wee bit of rain.

Love, from all 4 of us
Interior of Astrodome -- Houston, Texas
The world's first domed, air-conditioned sports stadium.  The roof is 208 feet high.  The dome spans 642 feet with an outside diameter of 710 feet.  Six thousand tons of air conditioning are used to cool the dome.

Staying right near here but won't get to see the Astros play.  Paper describes the temperature as torrid.  At least it baked out my cold.  Toured Louisiana's capital -- Baton Rouge this morning after having breakfast in beautiful Audubon Park where Audubon lived & taught & drew bird pictures.  Also saw beautiful old homes at Natchez.  A full day!  And now Daddy, John & MV are swimming.  MV loves the life jacket & goes anywhere.

Love from all four of us -- Mother
