Dad's Diary 1989-1999 [lightly edited]
Monday 1987 - Bought 8 coupons, senior citizen Delta tickets, good for one year, $592.
Friday 1990 - Sankers invited us down to go to their First Friday dinner at Hyde Park UMC. Program by Jerry Traylor who on crutches "ran" across the US in some 7 months. Very inspirational, "hardships are all in our mind." The weather has been great all this week, up in the 70°'s and dry. Bill Sanker to retire 12/7/90 from GE.
Saturday 1991 - Men's breakfast at Wilmington UMC, Carl Ling spoke, 8 from NV. Reception on CM Hospital at the Old Rice Furniture Store building, the roast beef sandwich was tough, quite a bash. Then at the Murphy an evening with Steve Allen, Jr., M.D. He spoke for 1¼ hours about laughter being the best medicine. Each of us got three pieces of clothes, used for being silly. Saw Bill Stephens, they have been at Otterbein for 7 years. Leon Salisbury had a balloon procedure to open up a blood vessel.
Monday 1992 - [Kentucky to home] Back from Williamsburg KY. We made a stop at Corbin to see Col. Sanders original place, had a sample of old motel room (had to go through it to use pay phone and also to women's rest room), was $4 a night in 1955. Lunch at Chi-Chi, their noon buffet was $4.99.
Thursday 1995 - Picked tomatoes at the parsonage. Jean having trouble with bladder.
Saturday 1996 - [Trip to Australia and New Zealand through 11/22]
Sunday 1997 - Pot luck at church for Bible Study group, got to Goodings about 4pm, left about 8:30. They are having Gary Kersey speak to their Historical Society in which they are quite active. They had a great meal.
Tuesday 1999 - Election Day. Had lunch at NV Senior Center, $5, sat across from Don and Martha Ann Bernard. He recently celebrated his 80th birthday. They are going to FL this Thursday. Grant Douglas here. Went to Martinsville for supper, a cold wet day and last week was so beautiful. EC school issue lost. Nick Eveland lost to Ranzk [sp?] in Wilmington mayor race, he has been in office for 16 years. Here in NV, Bently [?] beat Collins 190 to 150 votes and new council members are Waters and Goldsmith.
