Dad's Diary 1988-1999 [lightly edited]
Wednesday 1989 - [Chicago to home] Serena left us in Chicago about 7:30. We rode the Show Bus to and from McCormick Place -- so many samples of dairy products. Took train to La Grange ($2.55 each, 17 miles) from Union Station, then cab to Dan Wolf Pontiac dealer. Got away (with new transmission for $460) at 3:30 local time. Supper stop at Lafayette IN at Cracker Barrel. Hard rain most of the way, got home at midnight. New K-Mart open in Hillsboro.
Thursday 1990 - Jean had dental appointment in Wilmington, so we had lunch at General Denver, soup and salad, $3.95, poor service and was charged for 3 people. Put stuff for MV in van to take Saturday AM to their new home in Somerset.
Sunday 1992 - [Roberta visiting] Mother was "out" today. We ate at the Steak Place at Rocky Fork, Roberta used entertainment card. Gideon Sunday at Church. Bought new toaster and got church key made at K-Mart.
Monday 1993 - Jean had UMC meeting in Butlerville. Mother about the same. Spoke with Joe Hiestand. Picked a 5-gal pail of pears at Mothers.
Tuesday 1994 - We went to Wilmington. Jean had dry cleaning, library and had picture taken for Leadership Clinton. Ate at Taco Bell. Finance Meeting at church. Budget for year @ $45,000. Article in WSJ about how popular Baileys [?] in NYC is, 4-star in Mobil Tour Book.
Friday 1996 - [Trip to Australia and New Zealand through 11/22]
Saturday 1997 - Bob McMullen spoke at our UMC Breakfast, pancakes and bacon with Ruby Henderson as cook. Bob is 81, (born on Halloween) and still takes eggs to Cincinnati 3 days/week. Leadership Clinton banquet at Samuel Walkers, 1 vegetarian choice and 1 chicken ($15, $20), sat across from Bruce Hoskins of New Sabina Industries and Steve Wilson of L.C.N. Bank, they just opened one in Wilmington. Ken with LCNB sat next to Jean. The 3 Hayes sisters were recognized as humanitarian of the year. Little skiff of snow. [Leadership Clinton Tenth Annual Meeting and Recognition Dinner program inserted at this page. Lists Harold Uible as Secretary of the Board of Directors.]
Sunday 1998 - [Catherine leaves] Left for Columbus about 10am, drove around downtown Columbus before Catherine checked into airport. Then we went to 94th Aero Squadron for lunch, a brunch buffet at $12.95. Back to the airport, then went to see Roma and Homer Thompson, pastor here from 1981-84. She is now renting a S-10 Chevy pickup. She is quite unhappy with the Manager of the facility. Her sister is doing poorly. Went to P.L., quite busy. Barnabas program at UMC.
Monday 1999 - Busy day at office, Grant Douglas and problems with lot line being over. Got literature on U.N. trip for next October. Dirk Satterwaite called about his Dad's death at 94. We are still having ground hog problems. No news from Serena.
