Dad's Diary 1989-1999 [lightly edited]
Tuesday 1986 - [Philippines and Korea trip through 10/10/86]
Sunday 1989 - [Kentucky, with John, Serena, Roberta, the Hortons and Grandma] Had breakfast at the College for $2.40, then to Shakertown and walked (we didn't pay), then back to Wilmore for 10:45 church. Rev. Faris is pastor, spoke on joys of singing, even at midnight. We had the noon day buffet at the College for $4.50. The BIG recital was at 3:30, we were very proud of MV, she has lost 50# and sounded great and great composure. Roberta took video pictures of whole program with Bob Gooding helping. Nice reception afterward which Lorraine and her Mother headed up. That evening we saw the VCR on John's TV (he was the dorm proctor) of the afternoon program. About 9:30 we drove over to Nicholasville and had yogurt at Baskin Robbins., 99¢ for small dip.
Monday 1990 - Surprised to hear that Eleanor Johnson passed away yesterday. We had called on her the night before. She had two sisters, one was Louise Bellanger, Setauket NY.
Tuesday 1991 - [Roberta visiting] Changing congressional districts. Jean took Roberta and MUH to UMW meeting, then MUH called us 3 times, couldn't find her purse, and it was found lying under her coat on a chair at home. NV has repaved Bernard Road.
Thursday 1992 - [Seattle to Far East Trip with Liggitts]
Friday 1993 - [New England and Nova Scotia trip through 10/10/93]
Saturday 1994 - We went to Wilmington in the PM. Bob and Carls had bananas for 25¢/lb. Got new band for my watch at Walmart. Had a snack at Subway.
Sunday 1995 - We met Serena and the Sankers at First Watch at Harpers Point area in NE Cincy, also visited Joseph Beth Bookstore. Coming home up Rt. 22, MUH casually mentioned these friends in that area that came to WPB and have a house next to the Hornbecks. It's Les and Mary Oeder who have this big place south of Morrow, several lakes, etc. They have been married 62 years. She worked at Shillito's six days a week for $12/week. He talked of how Rt. 22 used to be so muddy. A stop in Blanchester where clerk is Ruth Van Gronigan's daughter.
Tuesday 1996 - Paul Ward was down, a friend of John's, promoting a family option, so our children would get a minority discount in stock distribution. Mowed grass at GHU's.
Wednesday 1997 - Jean had Womens Club meeting at Harriett Terrell's. Talk of putting Harriett West in nursing home. Eric Johnson stopped briefly. Roberta is back from Moscow.
Thursday 1998 - [to Kentucky] Left here about noon, Barry Williams came to work on bathroom heater. Went to 39¢ card shop and Cokesbury Book Shop for Christmas paper on our letter. Got to somerset, MV and Susan had left for Asheville. Article in NYT about new Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.
