Dear Mother, Dad, and Mary,
Hi! It was certainly nice talking to you last Saturday and hope you were able to get our reservations without any difficulty. Just thinking about them has made us alot more optimistic about the prospects of actually traveling. We will probably take the bus from here to San Francisco. The train leaves Klamath Falls (which would mean a drive of 150 miles) at night and arrives in Oakland early in the morning which wouldn't be the best time table for catching a night flight. On the bus we can leave our truck home in the garage and travel from Madras to San Francisco. The air reservations are definitely the most important part of the preparations and we appreciate your helping us out with them.
It is very windy here this morning. Right now the TV says the wind speed is 46 mph from the South so at least it isn't a real cold wind. The temperature is 46 and that turns into a 19º wind chill factor. Our house seem to be real tight. The windows aren't rattling and there don't seem to be any drafts. We are in a fairly protected location besides.
We had a very nice Thanksgiving. The turkey turned out excellently. It is all eaten now except for one container that I froze to make casserole out of later. I bought a gravy mix as my homemade gravy isn't always reliable. Then I made both and mine was much better than the package mix so that was gratifying. I think gravy, sauces, etc. are much easier to make in the microwave. We had squash, sweet potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and banana creme pie for dessert. I made it from the dream pie recipe on the Dream Whip box but I didn't think it was as good as it sounded. We went over to our friends house for the evening, Jeff & Shirley. Wendy is good friends with their daughter, Jamie (who's Grandma used to babysit her) so we all had a good time. They are considering moving over toward Astoria so we may lose some more friends. We never lived anyplace long enough before to have our friends move away. It seems strange. They have both lived in Madras all of their lives -- although Shirley was originally from Antelope which you may remember passing through on our way to Fossil. Jeff lived in Boise for two years. Anyway I think it would be a good experience for them to live somewhere else for awhile. Shirley and I are going to an exercise class tomorrow night called Jazzercise. Do they have such a thing in Ohio? It is sort of ¼ dancing, ¾ exercise and all to music. She was really sore after going last week so I have been trying to do some of the exercises that she showed mo so that I won't be as crippled as she was the day after.
Well, time to get Wendy up and get on with our day here. Thanks again for your help with the airlines. We are anxiously awaiting further details.
Love,
Catherine, Gerry & Wendy
