1967 Jean's Letter to Catherine -Oct.17

Oct. 17, 1967

Dearest Catherine,

This is just a note to tell you that we have got the Thornburgs (Wilma's Parents) to keep Mary Virginia while we are gone.  We will be glad to come home by way of Kalamazoo or have you come home the following weekend in order to see Grandma and Granddaddy before they leave.  We have not mentioned the thought of your coming home to them so will leave the decision entirely up to you but will have to know before we can make our final plans.

Do you remember Arnold Perkins?  He and Greg Schamaun have been close friends.  Anyway it is his father who is preaching this week during the New Life Mission services.  He is staying in your room.  (I'm here right now as he went home last night to attend some class he is taking at Capital University this afternoon).  Mary Virginia has taken a great liking to him and doesn't want to let him out of her sight.  Sunday evening at supper she said to him "I heard you yell in church this morning."  It was rather embarrassing but I said I think you mean speak instead of yell.  There were 65 Sunday evening with the regular choir and 52 last night with two selections from the junior choir – composed of John, Kevin, Jonda and Jana Curtis assisted by Serena, Lydia and Crytsal Linkhart.  Every evening they are having a Teen-O-Rama before the services and it seems to be going over very well.

Mary Virginia is screaming now to use the typewriter so to keep peace in the family I'll let her use it awhile.

Daddy wants to go to some merchandise show at the new Exhibition Hall in Cincinnati today so Mary Virginia and I are going along for the ride.  It is raining and not too pleasant to do much running around.  John doesn't have Cub Scouts tonite for some reason.

Mr. Okey passed away last Thursday and was buried yesterday.  He lived out there near Phyllis Tilton who by the way has gotten a new car – very similar to her old one – black but a Chevelle or whatever the Chevy is that compares to a Ford Falcon.  Josephine Williams' mother, Mrs. Ennis Miller died Saturday – it was a blessing for she was rather a burden.  The Harold Fishers are moving to Blanchester next Jan. for they have sold their farm to the same people that bought Sarah Powell's farm.

Mrs. Clark (of Clark's clothing) called up here very irate but we were happy to tell her that her messed up, wet paper hadn't been delivered by our family last week when it rained one evening.

On a card Grandma received from Aunt Mary last week she wanted to know how you were getting along, knew you would do fine though for you are so capable she said.  Mrs. Walker also asked about you and said she hadn't been too well and hadn't written but thinks so much of you.  Mrs. Smith was there too and she said "We all think alot of our Catherine."  So always glad to hear form you, what you are doing etc.

Love,
Mother
