Dearest Family -

Dad is working here at the shop so thought I would try using Phyllis' typewriter but it's too complicated for me -- at least I can erase some of my mistakes.  We stopped here on our way back from Glen Este where the bands were in competition but it was so windy and cold we only saw 2.  East Clinton was second and don't know how the people will sit through the whole program -- many were leaving.  Se stopped to eat at the new shopping mall at Eastgate at a York Steak House.  After looking over the mall it was snowing when we returned to the car.  By the way we saw Helen Carr with her daughter-in-law and two grandchildren -- about 14, 7 and another one expected before long.  She said Joe Hiestand is going to Dayton for tests as they won't tell him anything so far but he is being much more careful.

Dad got home last night from Atlanta and New York.  Mary Virginia went with the band to Clinton Massie but it poured rain so much that they didn't even get off the band bus -- Mr. Wilson decided to keep them in good shape for today but even leaving after half-time they didn't get home til about midnight.  She worked til midnite Thursday night on the Haunted Church and will probably go back there when she gets home and will be even later if they clean things up to be ready for church tomorrow.

M V is staying with the Hannahs while we go to Gatlinburg and already has a busy weekend planned.  The last football game at home is with Blanchester and is parents night (next year we will have to be on hand).  Saturday she is going to Wilmington College for the day as they are entertaining high school students.  That evening is the banquet for the summer softball players and then she is to go to a Halloween party (on Nov. 1).

We are taking the Harners with us to Gatlinburg.  I don't know how they manage to go so much as they will have been square dancing Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.  They invited us to go with them but there are other things that we like to do too.  Plus they keep up with both their churches and Melba's hours often require her to work in the evening.

Jo Streber was to have been operated on yesterday but haven't heard anything as yet how the operation came out but they were not to get up too much hope.  Some of you remember Ethel Pendall -- she celebrated her 99th birthday last Wednesday.

Bill Holmes passed away this morning -- he was knocked down by a dog and broke his hip.  He never recuperated from the setting of it.  Too bad yet he had a long full life and his mind was so clear.  Julian McKenzie also passed away last week -- another in his 90's.

The annual Halloween Carnival is at the school tonight and guess we will go there for supper but doubt if we see much of the carnival and later to the Haunted Church but I'd just as soon donate a couple of dollars and not go through it but realize they have put alot of work into it.

Anxious to hear about Serena's trip to the dentist for appointment(s) to have her wisdom teeth pulled.  Don't envy her that but something we all have to lose eventually.  Got letter and phone call from Catherine yesterday and cards from John and Carol today.  Glad to hear from all of them.  Imagine Roberta is still recuperating from her trip -- we want to call her but never know when she is in -- it is either too early in the morning or she is at work so will try again tomorrow.

Buckeye Molding is having their open house tomorrow -- the buildings look real nice but as Dad says they now need some shrubbery around them.  Kevin's part has not moved up there yet but most everything else has.  MV said the only expenditure on the Haunted Church was $4 for staples as Kevin was able to get so much from Buckeye -- even gravestone from melted over plastic.
