- Richard Nixon was elected as U.S. Senator from California
- Prescott Bush (father & grandfather of future presidents) lost his bid for U.S. Senator from Connecticut
- Billy Graham was heard on radio for the first time
- There was an unsuccessful push to end the Korean War which continued until 1953.
