Festival of Sharing
HH's Diary 1988-1999 [lightly edited]
Friday 1986 - [Philippines and Korea trip through 10/10/86]
Tuesday 1989 - [Portland ME to home] Breakfast in the room then drove to downtown Portland, to the Port Exchange area. Had a muffin at the "Cookie Lady," Debbie, we had met them at the B&B near Laconia. She suggested the Seaman Club for lunch, high priced but good. There was a loud tour group that came in. Store nearby selling ecology items. Bought some t-shirts and also [visited a] nice children's bookstore. Left Portland at 2:15, drove 807 miles in the week, $129. Back in Cincy at 6pm. The Walkers met us. Supper at Bob Evans.
Wednesday 1990 - [Japan and China through 9/30]
Saturday 1992 - Went to Festival of Sharing after our Spanish lesson. Back through Dayton to see Don Walters, MUH. Stop at La Fin... Grocery. Stewart has political signs up on 68N.
Sunday 1993 - [New England and Nova Scotia trip through 10/10/93]
Tuesday 1995 - [China trip with Roberta, etc. through 9/27/95]
Thursday 1996 -[Sea Island GA to Charleston SC] Had breakfast in the dining room, they have just oatmeal, supposed to be better for you. Jean had problems about 11am, upset stomach, etc. food was then repulsive. We had ordered a picnic basket, very nice but I really wasn't hungry either. Got to Kiawah Island about 4:30 Met Mary Ellen at Realty office. They have a huge 5BR, 3-story house as does Tom Dailey. Maureen is going to build there too. Got to Charleston about 8PM, Maison Du Pre' had our reservations mixed up, so will just stay one night. We have 1BR and sitting room with 1½ baths for $144 + $17.28 tax. Tom W. [Mary Ellen's husband] said Sarah Dailey is getting married for the fourth time and also Maureen is getting married.
Saturday 1998 - To Festival of Sharing, building a bypass on 35 for 72. We got there. Had long visit with Polly Greene. Program at 1:30 with Dee Dee Heffner speaking. [Dee Dee attended School of Missions in 1996, see 7/13/96 for details.] She and her husband have been in NM for 25 years at the school. Long service. To mall off 68 and 41. Got birthday cards then to ox roast at Wilmington put on by Kiwanis. Don Bernard said how bad Jim Smith [the roofer or the undertaker?] was with cancer. They had 3 lines, sweets, small container of slaw and beans and the pork sandwich for $6. We had a peanut butter sandwich when we got home. Peg and Arnold Hills son got married.
