1978 Catherine's Letter -Nov.2

Thursday afternoon
November 2, 1978
Dear Mother, Dad, and Mary Virginia,

Hi!  It was good talking to you on the phone yesterday morning, Mother.  And then your letter arrived in the afternoon mail.  aaAaaa (that is a nOte frZom WeZNDY WhO is HELPING ME TYPE.)  The capitol key and the z & a are the only ones she can reach.  She is now emptying the drawers beside the typewriter so maybe I'll have a few minutes of peace.  Thanks for the clipping also.  At the Safeway grocery here they have those kind of carts that are high and shallow and also means that everything is within Wendy's reach. I usually give her a few canned goods to play with and try to keep her distracted from the rest.  Sometimes we get home with cheese and meat that have teeth marks in them though.

A new family moved into the apartments last week from Tucson.  They have a 3-year-old son and a little girl about 6 weeks younger than Wendy.  The girl was born blind due to a lack of brain cells that interpret the vision of something, at any rate there is nothing that can be done even though there is nothing wrong with the eyes themselves.  She is about 6 months behind Wendy in physical development.  She can't even sit up yet.  It sure is sad to see a baby lacking what we take for granted.

I just got a call from Sears that the coat I had ordered for Wendy is out of stock and won't be in until Nov. 17.  I don't know now if I should order another one or hope that the cold weather won't be too severe for the next two weeks.  Maybe I'll stop by the Montgomery Wards and see what they have.  That is what I get for putting it off so long.

Tomorrow night we are going over to some people's house that have a little boy a month older than Wendy.  He is an insurance salesman and they moved here about a year ago from Portland.  I had gotten a card for a free gift from the insurance co. from the Welcome Wagon and when I went in to get it she and her little boy were watching the office while he was out on an appointment.  I told her we didn't need any insurance but we were looking for friends!

There is a family who lives here in Apt. O that have three daughters – two of them old enough to babysit.  We had the oldest one come over the other night when we went to a farewell party for the guy that Gerry replaced here.  Tuesday was his last day of work.  He is going elk hunting and then starts his new job in Klamath Falls on Nov. 15.  Anyway it makes it convenient to have a babysitter so close.  Wendy was asleep so she didn't have to do anything.

Well, Wendy is beginning to demand more attention and we have to go downtown fairly soon to do some errands before meeting Gerry after work.  Hope to hear from you again soon!

Love,
Catherine, Gerry & Wendy
