2003 California - Aug. 1

The end of July, early August 2003 brought a group of Uible/Hortons to California to celebrate Aunt Mary's 90th birthday at Yosemite.  Transcription follows.

Groveland California Postcard mailed 2003.  Captioned: GROVELAND, CALIFORNIA.  Twenty-five miles west of the Big Oak Flat entrance to Yosemite National Park.  State Highway 120 winds through picturesque Groveland.  This historic remnant of California's colorful Gold Rush days nestles in the foothills linking fertile farm valleys to the Sierra high country.  Photographs by David Compolongo.

Friday 8-1-03

Interesting town w/library & a museum built by men who had collected $60,000 by picking up tin cans.  The John Uibles & Ashcrafts left last nite after Mary's special birthday dinner as they were already part way & had to be at Oakland airport at 10 A.M. & was told the traffic wold be bad in AM going there.

Interesting library open 10-2 some days & others 2-6.  Museum had unusual exhibits.
