Dearest Family -
It has been over two weeks since we last typed a letter so it is long overdue. They have been a BUSY two weeks starting with four nights in Cincinnati and got to see places there that we had not seen on our own in the some thirty years that we have lived in the area. En route South we visited Abe's birthplace and a get together with MV's friends in Nashville.
New Orleans was the next stop and our 2nd time there and some of you may recall the first time in 1964 on our way back from Florida and your portrait painting on Jackson Square. Our hotel was in the French Quarter and we covered the area pretty well on feet. Last Sunday we attended the Prayer Breakfast and at our table of ten there was an attorney from Nigeria, a couple from Washington with their daughter and a guest from Paris and a L.A. attorney. Associate Supreme Court Judge Stevens gave the message.
The Tuesday night reception had three bands (in different rooms) -- we could have used some cotton in our ears and on the food side plenty of cheese.
Wednesday morning we were on our way to Calloway Gardens at Pine Mtn., GA, which was very pretty in quality and quantity. They had a great breakfast buffet and with light lunch refreshments we were in Cincinnati for supper in a restaurant that was formerly the site of the Rockwood Pottery on Mt. Adams, which is still complete with the kilns, etc. so plenty of that type of atmosphere.
Friday night about 9:45 the door bell rang and it was Rev. and Mrs. Kuntzman on their way home from Florida, where both Carol and Rennie (Al) live. To make a long story short they stayed overnight. He is 81 and is showing the years. They enjoyed seeing friends at the services this morning. They were here from 1959 to 1966. Helen is still working at the Greenville Hospital in the office and he is still trying to get his book on "Revelations" published. His arthritis is getting much worse and he really should use a walker but hates to be seen even with a cane. Carol is teaching business in a medical technician's school in Clearwater. Al is advancing rapidly -- now a staff sergeant and really liking it better than civilian life. Of course they asked about all of you.
Catherine is now THE Madras librarian and sounds like she is taking to it real well. Roberta is working or rather volunteering her time with the hospice patients (we are hearing more and more about these places for the terminally ill and what good they are doing). Serena is thinking of signing up for the study of Polish this fall. Looking forward to seeing John and Carol tomorrow at the state fair where MV will be singing in a group and doing three solos -- each segment is to last 17 minutes at most and is to be judged -- and those chosen come back Aug. 29 -- same day we are to go to New Cumberland for the alumni dinner-dance. Plan to go with (or at the same time as) the Sankers depending on how things work out.
[Love, etc.]
